-upcycled art-

South Africa

Background

aRt 27 Gallery – upcycled art - started in August 2010 in Dwarskersbos on the Cape West Coast. The pieces are mainly singular (once-off) and are made of metal, wood and glass.

aRt 27 previously ran a similar and very successful business in Groot-Marico, North West Province and is now based in Port Alfred, Eastern Cape.

The redundant metal and wood are mainly sourced from scrap metal merchants, building sites, farms, family, friends and acquaintances. The materials are upcycled into either singular pieces or innovative reproducible products. The pieces and products are functional by nature and mainly designed for indoor use. By utilizing mostly redundant materials, aRt27 Gallery leaves a lower carbon footprint than buying new or recycled metal.

Every sculpture and functional piece is unique in that it is not exactly reproducible.  (However, similar items may be commissioned.) These designs have been exhibited worldwide, and are regular features at design/decor/home/green expo's.
